Custom Engineering

When the off-the-shelf doesn’t fit, we build it.

Most businesses end up bending their process to suit their software. Bespoke work turns that round: a platform, an integration or an automation shaped around how you already work - built in stages, priced up front, and owned outright by you.

Is It For You?

Bespoke isn’t always
the right answer.

Custom software costs more than a subscription, so it should only win where a subscription genuinely can’t. Here is where we’d say yes - and where we’d honestly tell you to buy something off the shelf instead.

Build it

Your process is genuinely unusual and every tool you’ve tried needs a workaround.
Staff are rekeying the same data into two or three systems every day.
Licence costs now climb with every new user, and will keep climbing.
The thing you need to connect has an API but nothing on the market speaks to it.
The system is the service you sell, so it has to be yours.

Buy it instead

A mainstream product already does 90% of it for a monthly fee.
The requirement is still moving week to week and hasn’t settled.
Nobody internally can own decisions once the build starts.
The real problem is a process one, and software would only automate the mess.
The budget only stretches to the build, with nothing left to run it.

We’ll tell you which column you’re in at the free review, even when the answer costs us the job.

What We Build

Three kinds of
bespoke work.

Most projects are one of these, or a combination of two. We scope each one the same way - written down, staged, and priced before we start.

Web & Mobile Platforms

Portals, booking systems, member areas and internal tools built around your workflow instead of a template’s idea of it.

Customer and staff portals
Booking, quoting and job management
Role-based access and audit trails
Responsive down to a phone on site
Scope a Platform

Typically doesn't include: ongoing hosting, ongoing content changes, or ongoing feature development after launch — these are covered separately under a Retained Team engagement.

Most Requested

API & Database Integration

The bridge between the tools you already pay for, so a record entered once appears everywhere it should and nowhere it shouldn’t.

Stripe, GoCardless and Xero
HubSpot and CRM synchronisation
Legacy database migration
Two-way sync with conflict rules
Monitoring and failure alerts
Connect Your Stack

Typically doesn't include: licence or subscription fees for the third-party platforms being connected — these remain your own contracts with those providers.

Workflow Automation

Multi-step processes that run themselves - triggered, timed or conditional - with a human step wherever judgement is genuinely needed.

Document and contract generation
Approval chains and escalations
Scheduled reporting and reconciliation
Custom AI agent workflows
Automate a Process

Typically doesn't include: legal or regulatory sign-off on generated documents — a human in your team reviews and approves anything that carries legal or compliance weight.

How It’s Built

Boring technology,
chosen on purpose.

We build on tools with large communities and long support horizons, so another developer can pick your project up years from now without a rewrite.

Laravel & PHP

Mature, well-documented application framework.

Node & React

Interfaces that stay quick as data grows.

MySQL & Postgres

Relational data you can query and trust.

UK Cloud Hosting

Data kept in-region, backed up nightly.

Security by Default

Encryption, least-privilege access, logging.

Version Control

Full Git history handed over with the code.

Automated Testing

Critical paths covered before each release.

Written Handover

Documentation you could give to anyone.

How We Work

No surprises,
no runaway invoices.

Every project runs to the same five stages. You approve each one before we move on, and you see working software long before the final bill.

1

Discovery

We sit with the people who’ll use it and map what actually happens today - including the spreadsheet nobody mentions.

1–2 weeks
2

Scope & fixed quote

A written specification with screens, rules and a fixed price. If it isn’t in there, it isn’t in the number.

1 week
3

Build in sprints

Two-week cycles, each ending in something you can log into and try. Feedback goes into the next cycle, not a backlog.

4–10 weeks
4

Test & migrate

Your real data moved across and checked, your team trained, and both systems run side by side until you’re confident.

1–2 weeks
5

Support & improve

Hosting, monitoring, updates and a monthly allowance for changes as the business moves on.

Ongoing
6

Sign-off

At the end of stage 4, you have 10 working days to confirm the build matches the agreed scope. Anything outside that scope is treated as a change request, priced and agreed before we build it.

Ongoing
What Changes

The difference it makes.

Typical results across bespoke projects delivered in the last two years. Yours will depend on where you’re starting from - we’ll model it honestly before you commit. These are outcomes from past projects, not a promise for yours — we'll give you an honest estimate specific to your business at the free review.

12h

Double entry and manual reconciliation removed.

0

Per-user licence fees

Your headcount can grow without your bill following.

98%

Data accuracy

One record, one source, validated on the way in.

6–12

Weeks to launch

First usable release inside the opening month.

Engagement

Three ways
to work with us.

Whether you need a small integration or a platform your business runs on, the pricing is set out before anything begins.

Integration Sprint

A single connection or automation, scoped and shipped.

One integration or workflow
Discovery call and written scope
Build, test and deploy
Monitoring and failure alerts
30 days’ aftercare
Enquire About a Sprint

Doesn't include: ongoing hosting or monitoring beyond the 30-day aftercare window, or changes outside the agreed scope.

Most Popular

Bespoke Build

A full platform, delivered in two-week sprints.

Full discovery and specification
Fixed price agreed before build
Sprint releases you can try
Data migration and staff training
Source code and documentation
90 days’ warranty on defects
Start a Build

Doesn't include: ongoing hosting, monitoring or feature development after the 90-day warranty period — covered separately if you take a Retained Team plan.

Retained Team

Ongoing development capacity, month by month.

Agreed development days each month
Hosting, monitoring and backups
Security patching and updates
Priority response times
Quarterly roadmap review

Prices are starting points. Your exact figure is fixed in writing after discovery, so you know the full cost before committing to anything.

Common Questions

Things people ask
before they commit.

Can’t see your question? Drop us a message - we’re a real team and we’ll reply promptly.

Who owns the software once it’s finished?

You do - outright. The source code, the Git history and the documentation are handed over on completion, and the contract says so in plain terms. If you ever want to move to another developer, everything they need goes with you and nothing is held back as leverage.

What happens if the price changes mid-project?

It doesn’t, unless you ask for something outside the agreed scope. The fixed quote is set after discovery, when we actually understand the work. If you do want a change, we price it separately and you decide whether it’s worth it before we build it.

Can you work with the systems we already have?

Usually, yes. If a system has an API we can connect to it, and if it doesn’t we can often work with an export or a direct database connection. We’ll confirm exactly what’s possible during discovery rather than promising it beforehand.

How much of our time will this take?

Expect a few hours a week from one person who can make decisions. Discovery is the heaviest part; after that it’s a short review at the end of each two-week sprint. Projects stall when nobody internally owns them, so we agree that person up front.

What happens after launch?

Defects are covered by a 90-day warranty at no cost. Beyond that, most clients take a retainer covering hosting, monitoring, security updates and an allowance of development time. You’re not obliged to - the code is yours and you can host it wherever you like.

Do you build AI into bespoke projects?

Where it earns its place, yes - document handling, drafting, classification and custom agent workflows tied into your own data. We won’t add it for the sake of it. If a plain rule does the job more reliably and more cheaply, that’s what we’ll build.

What do you need from us to get started?

Access to the systems we're integrating with, a decision-maker who can sign off the scope, and about a few hours of everyone's time during discovery. If a system needs credentials or an export, we'll tell you exactly what's needed before work starts.
